A few posts back I wrote that a bunch of us at work were talking about how the Kersh Wellness Kinetic Activity Monitor (KAM) records activity. One woman told me she puts the KAM on her knee when she cycles.
That got me thinking about the possibility that the position of the KAM could have an effect on the points earned during activity. So, I decided to try an experiment.
I wore my KAM for the same walking route – but once on my hip, once on my knee, and once on my ankle – to see if there was any difference. The walk (our regular route with Jed, the beautiful black Boxador) is 3.3 k (2.05 miles) with some hills. We generally walk at a pretty brisk pace.
Here’s what happened.
On my hip, the KAM registered 10 points. That’s consistent with my usual readings for this particular walk.
On my knee, the KAM registered 19 points.
On my ankle, the KAM also registered 19 points.
I was not surprised that the hip reading was much less than the hip or ankle (makes sense) but I was very surprised that the knee and ankle readings were the same.
I’ve continued to wear the KAM on my hip for the most part as that’s what the Kersh Wellness program recommends. The main thing is to get out and exercise. Points or no points, regular activity for heart health is my goal!
